GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for taking ownership of new ideas and developing new products and the processes to realize such products.  Develop and prepare designs, piece part and assembly drawings.  Work to satisfy customers and provide operational support.  

Essential Functions:

  • Conceptualize design solutions to given or stated requirements.
  • 3-D modeling of new designs and layouts in Solid Works.
  • Modeling interfaces, piece parts and purchased components.
  • Analyze required information from precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides for dimensions, tolerances, and drafting standards and practices.
  • Customize and create detailed piece part drawings from engineering designs and layouts.
  • Design of tight-tolerance machined components – mill, lathe, and screw machine parts.
  • Design of molded parts.
  • Create assembly and product drawings.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Perform tolerance analyses.
  • Research and analyze problems and initiate recommendations and develop possible design solutions for implementation.
  • Initiate engineering change notices.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering and operations to ensure the sufficiency of drawing's detail (Bills of Material, special notes/instructions, standards) which facilitate manufacturability
  • Support and lead design reviews
  • Order, assemble and enable the testing of new products.
  • Solve design related problems with respect to performance, producibility and product delivery.
  • Develop suppliers to assure component supply.
  • Participate in the Material Review Board for non-conforming material.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret assembly drawings from internal and customer specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blue prints.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in customer service.
  • Strong team player.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 2 -3 years' experience in a related field
  • U.S. person as defined in ITAR, 22CFR 1120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status)
